The CGC class starts Thursday, March 29, 2018, from 5:30-6:30 pm inside and is a 6
Your Instructor is Kay Guy. Class size is limited.
Prerequisite: Basic Obedience or Manners.
The Canine Good Citizen class is based on the ten requirements for passing the
American Kennel Club’s Canine Good Citizen test. While learning and practicing the
skills (listed below) that are needed to pass the CGC test, the dog learns to be:
- Polite and well-behaved
- Show no signs of excessive shyness or resentment to people or other dogs.
- Comfortable being approached by and touched by another person.
- Attentive to their person.
Skills taught include:
- Accepting a friendly stranger.
- Sitting politely for petting.
- Appearance and grooming.
- Walking on a loose lead.
- Walking through a crowd.
- Sit and Down on command and Staying in place.
- Coming when called.
- Reaction to another dog.
- Reaction to distraction.
- Supervised separation
At the end of this class, you will have the opportunity to take a CGC test with your dog.
The date and time of the test will be provided near the end of the class session.
Orientation is 6:30 pm, Thursday, March 22, 2018, WITHOUT Dogs, and is required for
Registration form must be received by Monday March 12, 2018. Forms can be
printed, filled in and then mailed.
About your instructor:
Kay has been training with her German Shepherd Dogs for 25 years. She has had working Therapy Dogs and competed in Canadian White Shepherd Conformation Shows and AKC Obedience Trials. Her greatest accomplishment was training and certifying a Search and Rescue Dog, Angel. Kay and K9 Angel deployed to over 25 search and rescue missions in Virginia before retiring in 2010. Kay and her husband are retired and live in Heathsville with their 2 German Shepherds.
