Area Pups Graduate from NNKC Classes

The Northern Neck Kennel Club, a member of the American Kennel Club, recently graduated 10 dogs following successful completion of six weeks of classes held at its new facilities at the Fricke Pavilion, future home of Northern Neck Partners for Pets (NNPP).

Six teams completed the coveted AKC Canine Good Citizen program, designed to teach good manners to dogs and responsible dog ownership. Five teams earned AKC Tick Dog titles, a fun-based series of exercises that builds confidence and cooperation.

The kennel club has partnered with NNPP, a volunteer non-profit group seeking to build and run a no-kill animal shelter and adoption center for the Northern Neck. The training facility, located at 790 Devils Bottom Road, Lancaster, has led to new and innovative classes inside the building and outside on the agility field. NNKC is preparing a series of informational and enjoyable workshops throughout the year.

The following completed the Canine Good Citizenship test: Sandy Saxer with Tanner; Carol Hughitt with Boone; Katherine Skerl with Juno; Cathyann Feigenbaum with Cooper; Karina Gaines with Sasha, and Ava Burns with Onyx.

The Trick Dog titles were earned by Kim Bolster and Ransom, Katherine Skerl and Juno, Bryna Brennan and Frost, Sandy Saxer and Tanner, Peny Gollagly with Buffy and Sola, Catherine Bennett and Abby, and Bob Trinko and Charlie. One trick included a dog playing a toy piano. Another pup sat in a child’s rocker. And still another found a treat hidden beneath one of three cups.

All of the classes were evaluated by AKC-approved evaluator Gloria Daniels.

NNKC Training Coordinator Diane Trinko congratulated all the owners and dogs, adding: “We hope to sharply increase the number of people and dogs taking part in our classes and educate about responsible pet ownership.”

All dog owners, whether breed or non-breed, are welcome to participate in kennel club activities. Updated information will be posted on the website.
